Mike
Rowe PASS Victor at Canaan Fair Speedway |
Mike Rowe
was in the right place at the right time Sunday to capture his first Pro All Stars Series
win of the 2003 season in The Pro All Stars Series 150 presented by Shaker Valley Auto
Sales at Canaan Fair Speedway. Rowe inherited the top spot when Sam Sessions and Ben Rowe
came together in typical short track fashion and the senior Rowe kept Richie Dearborn in
his mirror for 70 laps to score the victory.
Sessions earned the Sunoco Race Fuels Fast Time Award with a lap of 14.258 seconds, just
thirty three-thousandths of a second quicker than Wayne Heilliwell in Carleton
Robies Chevrolet. Sessions redrew second for the pole dash but nailed down the win
to secure the pole for the feature event. Johnny Clark lined up to the outside of Sessions
with Mike Rowe, Gary Smith, Ben Rowe and Cassius Clark making up in the first three rows.
Johhny Clark put his DNK Select Used Cars Chevrolet out front at the green and looked like
he might avenge his last lap loss at Unity the week prior. Clark set a torrid pace in the
early going with Sessions hot on his heels and Ben Rowe up to challenge in third.
Clark kept the advantage until lap fifty-one when Sessions found room on the inside to
power by Clark for the lead. Ben Rowe soon made the move under Clark for second as the
handling on Clarks ride was going away. At the halfway mark it was Sessions over Ben
Rowe by a car length with Mike Rowe up to third, Richie Dearborn fourth and Clark now back
in fifth with Dave Gorveatt, J.R. Baril, Scott Mulkern, Dale Shaw and Wayne Helliwell
rounding out the top ten.
Just after the halfway mark Ben Rowe tried to make a move on Sessions for the lead but
Sessions went spinning instead. The contact sent Sessions back to eighth and Rowe to the
rear of the field for his part in the incident.
Mike Rowe was the beneficiary of the action just in front of him, moving up to the
lead with Dearborn now in second, Clark third, Gorvett fourth and Baril fifth. On the lap
eighty restart Rowe took command and the trio of Rowe, Dearborn and Gorveatt waged a tight
battle for the top spot as the laps ran down.
With three laps to go Ben Rowe had worked his way back into the top five. Again
there was contact between the 0 and 00; Rowes spin sent the point leader back to
sixth at the finish and Sessions was scored as the last car on the lead lap in tenth for
his part in the altercation.
Mike Rowe led a tight three-way battle to the line to notch the win with Richie
Dearborn scoring a career best second place finish and Dave Gorveatt third. Dale Shaw
battled back from an early pit stop to place his G.O.D./American Air Systems Dodge fourth.
Scott Mulkern earned his first top five of 2003 in the Community Pharmacies Dodge with Ben
Rowe sixth, Johnny Clark seventh JR Baril eighth, Cassius Clark ninth and Sessions tenth.
Doug Averill and Larry Gelinas each earned heat race wins. Travis Kheil received the North
Race Tires Rookie Challenge award for his fourteenth place finish.
The Pro All Stars Series returns to Wiscasset Raceway on Sunday May 25th for the Coastal 200. The Coastal 200 caps a tripleheader
